“Alston’s problem: Suppose I have a belief about God’s activity, and this activity is directed toward me. Perhaps I believe that God is giving me strength, or comforting me, or guiding me, or sustaining me, or something of that sort. (Alston calls these kinds of beliefs M-beliefs because they are beliefs based on Manifestation.) Are these sorts of beliefs rational? Is one entitled (or justified) to believe something like this? …”
